Weekly Art Event Post_Victorian Front Porch House Tour

Every year in Opelika, Alabama the town recreates the historic Victorian area of town. The Victorian families lavishly decorate their elegant, restored Victorian homes for the Christmas season and dress in period costume. As they dress in their Victorian costumes they walk around their neighborhoods singing carols to the many visitors that visit the city of Opelika each year. This event has captured national attention and it also draws up to 10,000 visitors each year.

The neighborhoods are brought to life with full Victorian dress and it also features many Old World wax figurines that include life-size Santa, carousel horses, porcelain dolls, the wise men, and also a recreation of the nativity scene overlooking lake that has been lit up with Christmas lights. All of the figures that are featured in the Victorian Front Porch House Tour have been designed by local artist Jan Jones.

The Victorian Front Porch House Tour is very beautiful at night because the owners of the Victorian homes illuminate the wax figurines with decorative lights that make them stand out to the visitors that drive around in cars. I love being a part of this magnificent tour that gathers thousands of visitors each year. This tour is a tradition that has been done for almost 30 years and it is still going strong.
